In the Orthodox Church the vast majority of the Sunday Divine Liturgy is chanted and this is the case with all of the other types of services. This is an Orthodox Byzantine Chant from the Lamentations Matins of Great and Holy Saturday Christ is crucified and laid in the tomb. The Byzantine Orthodox Chant is the most ancient form of chant in the Orthodoxy. It can be beautiful and this particular chant sounds like the voices of angels signing. Father John and the chanter Lydia are signing in this clip. The liturgy of the Orthodox Church is theologically rich and formative. Its easy to find prayer books online and other chants like this one are easy to find on You Tube.
