This is an excellently informative film about the ancient site of Silbury Hill in southern England, even though I disagree with just about everything the narrator infers cocerning the place. Contrary to what he argues, I’m convinced that it was a conical pyramid, although it may have started off as a natural mound. Anyone who has done manual building work will appreciate that you do not go to the trouble of dumping spoil in neatly arranged steps (which lie beneath its present-day surface) in alternating layers gravel, chalk and stones. To pass this off as something merely of ‘symbolic value’ implies that ancient peoples did not possess any sophisticated technology, whereas I think the modern mind does not have any real understanding of the concepts that enabled ancient technology. For me, the most important fact about Silbury Hill is that it stands directly above a natural water source. Like many other pyramids around the world, including Giza’s Great Pyramid, are similarly positioned.. Those who built it went ot the trouble of digging a resevoir around it. This would have made the Hill into what geologists call a conductivity discontinuity. In effect, its conical form, its watery periphery and steps consisting of different mineral layers, would have amplified the natural electricity that flows through the landscape, which are known as telluric currents. It is not unique as a conical pyramid, either. A couple of years ago, archaeologists found several in the extreme north of Peru.
