I dare say most members here would be well aware of just how dystopian the world has become, especially over he last decade. I think one of the drivers of this has been social media in all it’s dysfunctional glory, and having read Shashona Zuboff’s tome on that subject, ‘Surveillance Capitalism’, I can see why it is so. I note with interest the new doco doing the rounds – and trending big time too – on Netflix (it’s on youtube too I think, though all I can find are previews…I suspect it will end up there soon enough) ‘The Social Dilemma’. It is a very good statement of where social media is and where it is heading, which is clearly to no good end. I recommend watching it to everyone, and sharing the heck out of it too. It is well made, and very provocative I think…all the commentary is by the very insiders who helped create the monsters that dominate and control the social space and their insights are all the more ‘profound’ because of that. They see the damage done first hand, which makes the doco all the more worth viewing. It will be interesting to see just how long it stays in the Netflix top 10…it really is a wake up call for everyone 🙂
