Something ‘different’ on the music front 🙂
David Jones is a very well-known drum set player from Melbourne Australia, known for his spiritual approach to music and sound via drum set . This is a piece performed live on Feb 6 and streamed via youtube. It is a full program of music from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra- including a piece by Bernstein from West Side Story – that includes the Concerto for Drum Set and Orchestra written by noted pianist/composer Joe Chindamo; I confess a strong bias here, ads David was my teacher way back in the late 70’s/80’s when I began my studies on drum set. The Drum Set Concerto begins around 1hr20mins into the program. And yes, of course there is a written Drum Set score, but David memorized it:)

    • That was a wonderful program and fine performances. Melbourne can be proud of its symphony orchestra!

      • The setting worth mentioning too…the Myer Music Bowl, like the Hollywood bowl is essentially a huge metal tarp structure that creates an open air stage setting. The Bowl is situated in one of Melbourne’s many fine gardens and whilst it does have some seating, it is at the bottom of a small rise that spreads out for quite a ways, creating a ‘garden setting’ for the majority of the audience. Very much a family affair, and the MSO holds a series of free concerts there every summer. My wife and I attended many of these before relocating to her home country, the Philippines 🙂

      • Now that’s happy music! Thanks for sharing.
