This is how you know it’s time to stop carrying an iPhone. (not to mention why you expect your post will “magically” disappear from the forum.
1. You’ve owned several and always liked/loved them
2. You actually liked the feature of how it handles updates
3. You learn that Apple/Google unilaterally included contact tracing API’s (software hooks) in their software update
4. You objected to the update and refused to install it, your choice right?
5. You carefully avoided every nag to install the update
6. You still had an update notification but didn’t install or allow an install
7. You decided to check what version you have running on your phone
8. You learn that Apple without your permission updated your phone anyway
9. This update did not involve your permission and you did not “accidentally” update it
10 You find the update happened anyway, and that unlike in times past, there is no way to downgrade to the previous version of the software. And then it hits you. Your being forced to install updates that you do not wish to – that you have no option to not enable the software API’s that enable the contact tracing apps – that these “features” may well become mandatory at some point in the near future – and it’s right at that moment – that you realize that your consent is no longer a deciding factor in the eyes of Apple, or Google for that matter.
So, if I can’t trust Apple to NOT update my phone with features I strongly object to, can I then “trust them” to allow me to actually “disable” this kind of tracing on my phone. I’ll let each of your decide that for yourselves.
Surveillance of your movements via Bluetooth and GPS is no longer something you can opt out of. And that little business of your consent is no longer needed. But hey be patient, just wait till the next model of iPhone when they “feature” it’s 5G capability and they can even more accurately locate you, your cerebrum and your movements so that they can be sure you receive your “upgraded 5G signal” hoo boy, can’t wait.

GOOD TO KNOW. I keep mine in a Faraday bag and only pull it out to use or charge but it tells me it couldn’t download the upgrade because it wasn’t hooked up to the charger… DESPITE all my efforts to keep it from automatically downloading. Sounds like I am going to start using my ancient flip-phone again.
I’ve lived without an electronic leash (phone) for about 8 years now…and guess what, life is just fine without it…but even so, they need to know they get a big fat Nyet, Nein, No on “gestapo tracing” (let’s call it for what it is)
Seems old phones have a use again. Mine is from 2012. Mostly it is tucked away in a Faraday box. Rarely use the thing.
