Depressing read on the negative effects of smartphones on the current generation of teenagers…. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/09/has-the-smartphone-destroyed-a-generation/534198/

    • Jeez, what does this comment tell you?

Sure, the Atlantic. It’s those damn smartphones that are to blame for depression and anxiety amongst the young. What else could possibly be causing such distress among members of my generation, baby boomers and gen x’ers ask? It couldn’t have anything to do with the preceding generation doing everything in their power to hoard every dollar and pull up every ladder. Couldn’t be because our forebearers have been baying for cuts in education funding k-college after they enjoyed affordable tuition when they were young. Couldn’t be because they simotaneusly created a world where those of us without degrees are often doomed to poverty by gutting the labor movement that allowed them to grow up in middle-class homes and afford higher education. Couldn’t be because the same generation that gave themselves a nice social safety net slashed their own taxes during the years when they were earning the most (christs sake, our boomer leaders literally gave themselves a giant tax cut at the same time they were racking up trillions in debt sending young people off to die in Iraq and Afghanistan). Couldn’t be the steady erosion of democracy at all levels of our government, directed by people who value property rights more than voting rights. Couldn’t be the wanton destruction of the environment and the planet that my generation is set to inherit. I could go on for days. Our predecessors (after enjoying an era of such remarkable, widespread economic prosperity) have since Reagan basically been fighting like hell to strip away everything that allowed them to live a comfortable life while making sure to load my future up with unimaginable levels of debt because they didn’t feel like paying the damn taxes that could’ve funded all of this. You create a world where a kid who doesn’t go to college will likely live out his/her days in grinding poverty and you’re surprised when teenagers start offing themselves? And then you say “it’s the smartphones that done it!” Give me a break.]]

    • Well, I guess we’re not allowed to post a comment from another website’s article on here, even if it’s to illustrate how illiterate and brain-washed many of the post millennial generation are. First time I’ve been censored on GDS. Very surprised, considering everything else that gets posted to this community wall.
