Chinese tariff response to the US: food products.
“The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council decided to impose a tariff of 15 percent on 120 items of products including fruits from the US and a tariff of 25 percent on eight items, including pork, from the US, according to a statement posted on Sunday on the Ministry of Finance website.”

Like Brussels sanctions against Russia, this will have the consequence of discouraging imports and thus encouraging local production. Probably by accident but could be by design…
I was wondering if it was tied into Russia’s anti-GMO stance and perhaps they will start sourcing produce from Russia (not that Russia could provide enough to feed the Chinese population)…
I’d like Australia to import oganic food from Russia, but since we’re obviously the 5th man, I doubt it will happen. Imagine customs finding bags and bags of organic wheat all addressed to moi! They’d be knocking on my door in seconds…. sigh … 🙁
