I intended to order “Cryptozoology” but instead got “Cryptonomicon”, a novel with some quite interesting angles. Spans from a boy genius learning to play the pipe organ in S. Dakota (I kid you not) to Bletchley Park, Herman Goring and Yamashita’s Gold.

The motorway bridge collapse in Italy: the toll road network is operated under concession to a private corporation controlled by Benetton (the clothing makers with the globaloney advertising campaigns). This has already caused some people here to bring up the taboo word “nationalization” with regard to essential infrastructures.

Seize the companies? Unfortunately, their “financial wealth” is closely tied with nearly free central bank created “money”, which makes the nationalization scenario much different from a few decades ago. Real assets (such as oil refineries etc. are another matter.
