Maritime law has been much maligned as the source for enforcing many oligarch policies. But now Italy is using it to repel NGO migrant trafficking vessels, and the minister in charge of infrastructures (including ports), Toninelli, has threatened boarding and confiscation of a “rescue” ship, allegedly registered in Holland, for violation of norms on piracy.
