“Dr. Lee compares the effort to develop AI in both China and the US. He argues that China is moving faster to develop and apply AI than the US, which is currently in the lead. On one hand, Dr. Lee is “talking his book.” On the other, he does an excellent job of helping his reader understand the Deep Learning aspects of AI as they are applied in business, enterprise and the economy – and how fast this change is accelerating. ”
China can easily place tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands or even millions of engineers and other AI professionals on this project. They have unlimited amount of man/brain power.
I attended a lecture by Thomas Mullaney, author of this book in Mountain View. In discussing the history f the typewriter in China he notes that they were working with Chinese characters. The 1st machines were huge and unwieldy. They quickly saw the logic of a cloud and presentation of auto fill selections. Soon after with spell check functions, they were helpfully peeking as you typed. He argues this is the basis for their rapid development of surveillance . https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0262036363/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I’ve always dreamed of owning a Chinese typewriter!
It’ll send everything you type back to Beijing but you wont know about it…
