Holy quarantine. In what is theoretically one of the most “Catholic” countries in the world, the Italian Conference of Bishops has suspended all religious ceremonies including funerals until April 3rd. Churches are open, however. From this one can evince the probably deliberate “misunderstanding of the mechanism of religious ritual. Social media commentators have been saying that meetings are however still taking place in mosques, of which there are a number in the northern areas. On the other hand, masses are still being held at St. Peter’s, at the rate of several per day including one in Latin.
