Rubin on how to face the culture war:

    • Rubin seems to think that politicians are a necessary part of the way forward. I concur with the thought others have expressed that a corrupt system cannot be rectified from within that system.

        • “Politicians are not born; they are excreted.”
          ― Marcus Tullius Cicero

          • … BINGO! Pipoe … How one can assume any property(ies) or charteristic(s) or what we might naively think of as the “normal functioning” of any system (e.g. judicial, economic) is/are still in intact and effective to any useful extent is almost beyond comprehension at this point. I was stunned in the recent Annual Roundup that the fact that the loss of this assumption as capable of being used as part of one’s reasoning about our most recent unpleasantnesses was not apparent to CAF.

              • You make a good point, and I’m mostly with you on that. I still think it’s rational, in a dire emergency, to grab anything at hand that might serve as a tool and give it a try. But that’s a stopgap, not a strategy. We desperately need “outside-the-box” solutions-oriented thinking right now. (I admire CAF for the herculean effort she’s put into uncovering and explaining the missing trillions. Personally, I don’t believe it’s realistic to think we’re going to get some/any of it back. It would be easier–and still very hard–to just start over with a new, non-digital currency.)
