In Spain they were called “moros”. I think it had to do with the colour of their skin because it means purple. Not very PC. back then according to modern standards, but it was quite natural to distinguish people according to their colouring.

I am originally from the Dayton area and I can tell you that the economy has kicked the region in the ass. It is now simply a warehouse district for supplies being shipped between the south and the east. Drug abuse is over the top so people are easily manipulated/angered.
