The way I understand it (I am just outside of Memphis right now), Arkansas built the bridge and then TN was supposed to maintain it… However, along the way, it was declared a federal highway so the USDOT was supposed to maintain it. The guy was doing his routine check and flew a drone under the bridge and VOILA! Freak out, call 911, stop the traffic. I was heading back to TX but between the alternate route and the fuel question, I decided to stay put for a while. Darn. Cool weather, tall trees and green, green, green.
Not sure it is the steel as much as the weld. I know it is too new for most of the US steel production (I grew up in a steel town- Armco was the center of activity) and at some time in the future, we had better start rethinking our resources, LIKE steel. I flew a tiny Cessna that had steel manufactured in China and assembled in the US. They quit making it for all the troubles with the bad steel.
