Re our training: When I was a child, c 1950, when you were ‘sick’ , boom you went to bed. Mom brought me food on a bed tray, new crayons and a couple of coloring books. I did not wander the house and my siblings spent little time with me. When I went back to school I was well and not penalized for my absence. I did not have to make up busy work.
Following the popularization of decongestants, parents and workers would get sick, take a decongestant and manage to navigate school and work all the while spreading the illness.
I wonder what percentage of doctor’s visits, particularly during the fall and winter, are attributable to easily preventable severe colds, bronchitis and sinus infections. I’m guessing a high percentage.
We have been duly retrained. One effect of our retraining will surely dramatically reduce the burden of heath care systems. IMO this is one of the functions of management of this variety of SARS. No question our health care delivery system is being streamlined. Our training is part of that effort.
