Maybe there was a total communications blackout in both ships…and if there were such blackout, what caused it? I don´t know, it´s surely very odd “accident”.
The USS Fitzgerald reported the incident immediately and so did the other destroyer which was in the the immediate vicinity. The question the Japanese Coast Guard is asking was from the cargo ship as to why such an erratic steering course and radio silence along with why the cargo ships exterior running lights were off or not visible, which is against maritime laws, especially in well traveled shipping lanes.
It could be a terrorist attack too like you said before. It´s like from books of Tom Clancy. He was like oracle and still is number 1 fiction writer to me. Im just curious why this US destroyer was so close…it´s quite agile ship compared to these huge cargo ships. How and why did it get so close to this cargo ship?
Good point. My speculation is this… if the destroyers Aegis radar system was turned “off” and satellite tracking from Us Military satellites from Guam and Hawaii is missing, then a ship especially a United States Naval vessel is virtually blind and the last component being lookouts posted on the weather deck are the last line of defense from hitting another surface object. If the cargo ship’s transponder and outside running lights are off it is very difficult to see even such a large ship at night even when conditions are good. To run into an Aegis Radar equipped surface warship is very hard and difficult when those system’s when they are on. These are phased array radars which mean the radar dish does not move like in normal radar, the radar beam sweeps the area via those big antenna mounted on the supper structure and they sweep very fast in all directions. These systems were developed as air defense radars and surface as well to find, maintain weapons lock and track over 100 plus targets and the missiles have a chance to lock their targets and fire. Surface contacts are easier because they are slow compared to jet aircraft and missiles. So I am very skeptical this cargo ship could get close enough to the destroyer to ram it if those radars were on. Another thing there was an additional US Navy destroyer with in close proximity of the Fitzgerald. They too if their radar was on should have spotted the 750 foot long cargo ship. Also reported in the immediate area were several JMDF warships which have equally as good radar on them as well. So I can not reasonably understand that this cargo ship could not be detected via electronic measures if they were being bused properly! So as Sherlock Holmes states we eliminate the impossible whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth… I think this was to be a provocative move and a cry to war but failed as soon as it happened.
I never served in any ships, so I trust your judgement.. You know what you are talking about. Do you remember anything same like this last in 100 years? Why it happened now
A few months ago, the collision of a Russian “communications” ship with a Turkish merchant vessel near the Bosphorus. Asleep at the wheel here too? Don’t think so…
The Cargo Ship was transporting the equivalent of the Phillipine’s Dracula..
Could the radio silence be explained by EM interference? The military grade systems might have been shielded, but I dont know if such protection is equipped on cargo ships..
The Russian collision I am not able to answer as I am not fully aware of the circustancdes. I do know it was an intelligence ship and the Russians are on par with the United States when it comes to electronic warfare. As far as EM pulses I also can’t answer as I don’t know the current counter measures to EM pulse technology. The Cargo ship from what I am reading sounds as if they turned off their transponder and running lights as an intentional act. However I may never know for sure.
Like that plane that chnaged direction turned off its transponder and running lights.. To me.. and my woefully uneducated mind.. this sounds like the same ‘symptoms’ of what people were describing for the plane.. Changed direction, turned off tranponder.. I wonder if they use the same operating manuel..
page 1. Aim at Plane, Train, Ship and Automobile of your choice.
2 turn it on and change direction.
3 Turn off the Transponder.
