    • When Max Igan explains the aquifer arising from the summer flooding of the NT, and we are talking about something like up to 30 feet of water across the low parts of that end of the “island”, and that it is all being utilized by mining, fracking, etc., it is literally horrifying. If this does not stop now, there will be no Straya.

    • Sequel to a previous report on the privatization of water supplies fracking and cash crop uses to the detriment of national water table levels.

      • Some years ago men bought the land above the Oglala Aquifer saying they now owned the aquifer. Some of them were oil men claiming the water like they did the mineral/oil rights in Texas and Oklahoma. Old habits.

        • Interesting. They applied water rights to an entire aquifer. If the Australian government was as socialist as they behave in some instances, they would have taken back these rights for the public. Instead, in a truly corrupt system (much like the US) it is corporate ownership over public need. I guess Australians and Mericans better kick some sense back into their governments before it is too late. They stress Climate Change but they need to be stressing Common Sense Change and moral authority.

          • The man most blatant about this was T. Bone Pickens. Nice when someone confirms a suspicion like he did.

            • As I recall, Pickens simply paid for the water rights (most land owners were originally granted water rights to bodies of water, my great grandfather sold his rights to a city). Sounds like the corporations simply granted themselves the water rights in Australia.

            • Yes. I see the difference. At the time when he was speaking of this the point was made that he and others were targeting the acquirer in a coordinated plan across several states.
