… you might enjoy some of the literature on the connection(s) between gravity and the vestibular system, and the literature on behavior and vestibular system abnormalities.
any recommendations?
… I’m not sure what DBs to which you have access … if you have access search with keywords in Pubmed DB. You can also search using keyword pairs gravity / vestibular system on Google Scholar. As for a place to start … as with any inquiry you start where you are … There are some good pieces in Gravity and the Organism (Gordon, Solon A. and Melvin J. Cohen – Eds.) Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1971. In Part IV, (21) Horridge, G. A. – Primitive Examples of Gravity Receptors and Their Evolution, All of the pieces in Part V. Section Title: Vertebrate Responses to Gravity (pps. 253-313).
In Part VI. (32) Smith, A. H. and R. R. Burton – Chronic Acceleration of Animals (interesting chapter. The assumption is that our internal regulatory mechanisms (e.g.the vestibular system) evolved over time within the contexts of the physical environment experienced by the organism. It is also assumed that the variations in our physical environment (e.g. climate / weather) were fairly stable over time. If there are severe rapid alterations in our “climate” – as is currently being claimed- might the internal regulatory mechanisms (e.g. the vestibular system) have difficulty in adapting and maintaining stasis? If so, with the vestibular system being more or less an interface between us and the Cosmos, might this affect our cognitive abilities, perception, interpretation (meaning generation), behavior … possibly … (32) Wunder, C. C. – The Effects of Chronic Acceleration of Animals. (pps. 371-411). A place or two to for you to start along with some names to trace out. Quite a rabbit hole should you choose to enter.
