Imagine this scenario for a moment. The United States Congress shuts down the government in Puerto Rico and throws the Nationalists in jail because they are “corrupt”. Then in the name of democracy, Washington calls for new elections and the Nationalist, the people that were thrown in jail, end up winning.
This is a political disaster for Spain.
