Have we learned nothing from the psychological effects of not only the “like” button but the “dislike” button? All I can ask is… Why? Please feel free to “like” or “dislike” this comment as I’m currently in my psychological happy place.

Grammar 101 for the day: “Sex” is a distinction between animals; “Gender” is a distinction between nouns.🖖
-
Just a little anecdote…whenever I have to fill out a form and it asks me for my “gender”, I ALWAYS cross out the word “gender” and write “sex” above it. The question they are asking is simply wrong. I am not a noun today and an adjective tomorrow (although I have plenty of adjectival ranting I could do on these language technicians), and…
-
I go a step further. When it asks for race I cross them all off and write “human.”
-
-
I thought I was the only one having a problem with that. I go a step further and cross out the question and options and write Man.

What is “tricky” about the Frankfurt School is that their critiques were often quite apt (e.g., fascism, power and the authorizers of power, high/mid/low culture, social construction, economics, Hegel, Marx, etc.) Their intellectual capacity was obviously profound, this cannot be denied. Marcuse, for example, may have been cynical, even psy…[Read more] -

When I think of The Frankfurt “School” I always think of who was likely their Patron Saint, Antonio Gramsci. Gramsci is the true root of what we now call, “Cultural Marxism”.-
… we also shouldn’t forget that many streams flow into the river of our most recent unpleasantness … even something like disagreements concerning the foundations of mathematics … for a quick and dirty account of such a thing see Vladimir Tasic’s – Mathematics and the Roots of Postmodern Thought, Oxford University Press, 2001.

Attention all book worms! Are there any “classical” dictionary recommendations out there?
-
Hard copies of early 1970s (and older) multi-volume dictionaries published by Oxford University Press (OUP) and Cambridge University Press (CUP).
-
… The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia (The 1901 Edition, 10 Vols.) and also
The Imperial Dictionary of the English Language (8 Vols.) 1896
-
I second Diogenes on the multi-volume Oxford English Dictionary (the OUP dictionary he refers to, I’m assuming). It has long been considered the “gold standard,” or at least it was–I have no idea what kind of tinkering they’ve been up to in recent years. So early 1970s and older is good advice too.
-
-
I am of the opinion one should hoard as many old, printed, dictionaries as is practical. If forced to decide between one or another, look up the word ‘gender’ — the way that definition is handled will tell you all you need to know.
-
Funny–I was recently thinking, “Gee, with the way they’re changing definitions in real time, maybe I should get ahold of a printed copy of the next-to-latest edition of Webster’s.” I’ve got it on CD, but that’s not the same.

In one of my books on grammar I found this, “Verbs function as the root of what’s called the predicate…” I then thought, “A state of Action Founded in the Subject.” And then, of course, I was reminded, yet again, of you know who… the olé Metaphor. Grammar, my truest foe, and greatest Love!

This is such a great story that has largely been forgotten. I once found an old newspaper article that told a story of two children peering over Ed’s wall as he worked at his second site/home. They said he had a ice cream cone in his hand and was pointing it at the stone he was moving… Sumer, anyone? Supposedly, he stopped working during t…[Read more]-
Hey ML light,
Yes it is an amazing story, that’s make you want to find out the secrets behind the events. I’ve always been intrinsically drawn to such dynamic people, Ed was one Tesla was another. If i somehow had been given the opportunity to travel backwards (forwards, sideways, inverted or twisting) in time, it would be to them I’d…

Good morning once again ML light,
Last night I had dreams of Ed’s castle, summer, children playing pirates and icrecream cones, somehow the seed of that pleasant scene was planted in my psyche from the exchange. Do you happen to have the title of Ed’s book on magnetism? Thank you in advance . . .

It’s quite sad to see a “community of alternative thinking”, one that was remarkably non hostile, for the most part, become more and more closed and hostile by the day.

Post a movie and forbid reviews? I used to tune into every episode when on Gaia TV, before they got busted. Now there’s a full length feature put out by an entertainment company. Cool.
Interesting narrative that collates much of the UFOolgy. stuff. David has fascinating delivery kind of hypnotic. -
I have offered my apologies to Dr. Farrell and I extend them to you all, as well.

About what?

“Attacking” someone on here who kept trying to get Dr. Farrell to answer something about a Blue Chicken video. I knew Dr. Farrell would never answer – he has discussed these people on Vid Chats for years and, as a Secret Space Program attendee – knew the group who spoke there would NEVER entertain these frauds at a REAL get together of…

MMMMMM,,curious. I too have commented about certain BS conspiracy mongers. I find now the best thing to do about it is to put them on ignore,,like unruly children, hurt feelings ( theirs) or not. Rule of engagement = dont engage. They will either grow up or they wont, either way it’s not going to be my problem.
