Sigh…
Had to come from the UK… more of the same from our media…
They keep talking about 50 – 70 mph winds; pure anecdote but I can tell you there is only a mellow breeze down here in the flats of Napa. I don’t recall ever hearing about “fire whirls” or “fire tornado’s” in years past; did we just lack the technical equipment to document this phenomenon? My brother observed this “whirl fire” up in Redding two years ago; he had personally viewed several wildfires in the North Bay ( including Mt. Vision fire in Inverness ridge ) over the past few decades and that “tornado whirl” in Redding was the first time for him. Also, I suppose it’s okay on this particular board to make the observation ( that scores have made before ) that these areas that are burning are really *prime real estate* ( chock full of world class vineyards ) ; sure would do *someone* a lot of good to buy that land up on the cheap.
PG&E has now said that a transmission tower was ‘left on’ and this ignited the Kincaid fire now burning. Here is a video ( posted less than an hour ago ) by a Croatian gentlemen who takes you frame by frame through the footage [ taken from the Nevada Seismological Laboratory ] of the series of events that led to the explosion.
