Just a few random thoughts thrown together in one place… and take a deep breath first, as I’m sure some of you will need it by the time you’re done reading this… Impeach Trump and Convict. Pence then Pardons Trump and the Capital rioters from all sides. This may relieve just enough social pressure and protect Us against the spectacle that will be the trials of not only the rioters, but possibly Trump himself. If this doesn’t happen we can likely kiss all political civility and maybe even the right to peacefully dissent and assemble goodbye. Further, the last thing this Country needs is a four year campaign from Trump for 2024. If that happens, God help us! It’s beyond obvious he doesn’t have the ability to calm the madness, let alone unite Us. I don’t think Biden does as well, FYI. Trump had his shot these past four years, and in spite of his good work in many areas, he absolutely blundered it in so many others. This is a tough one to swallow. But it’s the combination of many of the best (or worst) possibilities to get Us through these next few years, if not days. Our Country is far more important than one man, and further, if Trump was our only hope then We were finished long ago.

    • Exceptional country with exceptional people still looking for their savior? Maybe that is a reason those exceptional people split in two groups. One Avatar won’t work anymore, two doesn’t go either! What know? The rest of the world is waiting with bated breath.

      • Are you sure it’s worth the time or mental energy to even think about U.S. presidential politics anymore?

My advice to the rest of the world: Stop projecting any hopes onto the U.S., its government, or its foreign policy. Consider devoting your energy instead to improving, or devising ways to survive, conditions where you actually live.

My personal decision–which I’m not saying is the only rational decision–is to henceforth ignore U.S. federal politics except: (1) to the extent necessary to know what threats (from the federal government) I may need to protect myself from; and (2) to the extent there’s any chance of getting some of the missing trillions back. And I believe (2) is possible, but very unlikely.

          • Of course I think it’s worth my mental energy! Have you seen the news lately? And how does one ignore while also not ignoring? As an American it’s impossible to ignore. Ignoring is literally what led us to this moment. As an American my advice is put as much mental energy as is physically possible into reconciliation. Further, our government is far from lost; our country is far from lost! Head in the sand is the worst possible idea, ever. If our government continues going down this path basic survival tactics aren’t going to amount to much. And why don’t you have them already is my question? More head in the sand excuses? That goes for the individual, the country, and the world. If America falls the “free world”, if that’s really a thing, which I think it can be, doesn’t have much of a chance after that.

              • Well, we disagree, but that’s a normal part of discussion. I’m not convinced reconciliation is a realistic prospect. My impression is Americans have spent too much time on the presidential and Congressional reality show in recent decades. The only politics I’ll devote much energy to will be city, county, or state; as little as possible to federal.

                  • I agree about city, county, state. But state leads to congress, and congress leads to the president. They’re all connected, obviously. Further, reconciliation is always possible.

                    • I forgot to mention the only exception, for me, to expending energy on federal issues: the possibility of curbing federal tyranny a little via the federal judiciary through lawsuits. I consider that a longshot, but not one worth totally giving up on yet.

                  • If it weren’t for the fact that American (bad) breath upsets worlds borders! Don’t even want to think what they are doing outside earth’s borders with the space force.

                  • Big difference what a country represents and what a individual within a country represents. Those are not interchangeable. Great people live everywhere.

                      • Well, if you’re implying that America has no good qualities, or produces nothing of value as a Country for the rest of the world, or that a Citizen of America cannot represent these good qualities through both themselves and the Country, that which is undoubtedly interchangeable, then you’re clearly not speaking rationally.

                        • No, that is not what I am implying at all. But Europeans and Americans could be more consious about what there respective governments do in other countries. Sorry to say that isn’t lovy dovy stuff most of the time! Thinking Western countries only contribute on the positive side of the balance sheet, then you’re not clearly speaking rationally.

                          • I certainly didn’t imply that, nor would I. There is plenty of blame to go around if that’s all you’re interested in.
