Essentially, China uses its vast marketplace as leverage to convince companies to self-censor. And attempting to control what people say is also an attempt to control how people think.

  Well, we haven’t seen any Hollywood executives suddenly decide to leap out of tall office buildings yet so if that starts to happen we’ll know we’re on the right track.
