This one did move slow and it faded from my vision without changing speed as far as I could tell – no fancy moves either. -

Shaking my head in wonderment? disbelief? who knows!
I’ll explain…
This morning, a little after 5am my time, I was outside drinking coffee and gazing at the stars.
As i was looking up an odd cigar shaped thing began crossing the sky.

What you describe is something my family observed in about 1963-4 from our upstairs balcony. The only difference is that it moved slowly, including hesitating or almost stopping in intervals, then suddenly took off and banked leaving an obvious circular form with the lights creating a halo and then disappeared in the night sky.
