This is a 3 part (so far) series, this being part 1. It has been incredibly interesting to say the least. This “lesson” discusses Trusts, Trustee’s, creditors and how this led to The Virginia Company. We then dive into the underworld of Merchant Law vs. Common Law. These “Merchant Guilds” led to the City of London (NOT London proper) and how this ties into Magna Carta. Through a series of events (included in the read), we end up with Maritime Law. Finally, we wrap up the read with a lesson on “The Holy See.”
I will link Part 2 and 3 in the comments below. I would LOVE to hear some of your thoughts on the “lessons.”

Yes I’ve read these online articles on the Payseur question but would like to see more specific historical sources for this material and its purported ramifications.
The Payseurs seem to me to be like the Hivites. Big bad super baddies that came out of nowhere with no or little historical record at all… Which doesnt mean that they havent been there.. Ea knows how much informtation and records we’ve lost in the past…
The Hivites are mentioned in part 3. I’ve always wanted to lean more about them, but as you said, much seems to have been white washed.
