Regrettably, I haven’t yet pulled the trigger on home schooling my 3 school aged kids (7,6,4 and a 1mo old). This is something that causes me much angst and guilt. I’m working my way forward with a solution and hope to commit soon to a home based education.

However, that isn’t the point of this post. In the recent Wrap-Up with Dr. Farrell and Catherine, JPF mentioned the Trivium and Quadrivium. I had forgotten about these books of mine and more importantly, the lessons they teach. Today, we are taught WHAT to think and not HOW to think. Anyhow, I stumbled upon this video linked below. His channel is really great for any of our homesteaders.

    • We used several books by Susan Bauer Wise – this one in particular: https://www.amazon.com/Well-Trained-Mind-Classical-Education-Fourth/dp/0393253627

    • Time to form a community of homeschoolers in your “neighborhood”. This makes either hiring a few specialist tutors and/or sharing teaching responsibilities. Our future will depend on these groups teaching our children in intelligent settings.

      • I have put my feelers out there to see if any of the parents are interested in pooling our resources in this regard. To be honest, this may be one of the pros to the COVID plandemic, it’s got people tired of all the bull sh**.

    • I don’t have kids but really believe homeschooling is the best option these days. One step at a time, and don’t get discouraged! As justa says, networking with other homeschoolers is a great idea.

If I had kids, I’d make sure, at the appropriate stage, to teach them the common logical fallacies (ad hominem argument, appeal to authority, etc.). If more people could recognize them, they’d be better able to think clearly and avoid being swayed by the media and other propaganda.

I’d also make sure to include at least one foreign language (living or dead) in a child’s education. Learning foreign grammar teaches students to think, opens their minds to the larger world, and gives them access to literature that would otherwise be closed to them.

      Just my two cents.

      • I’ve been thinking the same thing about the benefits of adding a foreign language into the mix as well.
