  Thanks for finding and sharing…am familiar and read some of his writing…was totally unfamiliar with the author until now. Back in 2010 my worldview was turned upside down as to why the decent community (like le Carre) of humanity were letting so much bad stuff to continue….fastfoward ten years, voila.

  Toward the end when he discusses the diamond extraction to the demise of the Congo, I am reminded of working for one of the Hochschild’s at Blue Mountain Lake, Eagle Nest compound. The only son of Harold was so mortified by his father’s use (misuse?) of populations in Africa for gold and other precious metal mining, made him completely rebel against the entire upper class society in which he was born. He had exactly the same reaction as David Cornwall.
