  Wow. My uncle worked there as a glass worker for many years (obviously since LED bulbs are their current product, they had other lines previously.) I grew up in Middletown, Ohio (Hillbilly Elegy) where all the paper companies and the steel plant have left leaving a poor community of unemployed Appalachian imports. Flyover country continues to get hammered.

  The only surprise to me is that Walmart was still producing anything anywhere in America. When I was very young, northeastern Ohio near Lake Erie was a fairly thriving, pleasant area, with actual communities that would’ve scored very high on CAF’s “popsicle index.” An average worker could earn enough to buy a house and support a family. It was a nice place to be a small child. Then the factories shut. The rest is history–sad history.
