Well…where do i begin, I spotted the below op-ed on this subject and had to re read it and ponder on it. I know nothing of the author and therefore nothing of the credibility of the writing. But what I do know is that I find it disturbing is that his statements of damage to certain US Naval ships during the relief efforts of the Earthquake and subsequent humanitarian mission. The USS Ronald Reagan was operating off of Fukushima with no personal operating on the weather decks except those operating helicopters and all fixed wing operations were called back. Sailors were entering and exiting the fantail of the ship and a fire was burnin g to burn their uniforms before entering below decks. Now I wasn’t there but did read several credible articles on what was being done. There were 16 USN ships there that are still contaminated. So I find some interesting points that Mr. Shimatsu brings up about disposal of these warships and support ships. He is also correct that the UUS George Washington relieved the USS Kittyhawk as the forward deployed aircraft carrier in Japan. So she too was contaminated and I can see this as a plausible scenario. For the rest of his article I do not have an opinion on it but this theory in my mind makes very credible argument. To scrap these ships would cost a fortune and to admit what happened would be a political nightmare for America as well as Japan. As for the part for the Japanese Marine Defense force to take part in such a fiasco I am skeptical at best. However the rest about getting rid of the evidence of radiation contamination is plausible. Also Fukushima is making Chernobyl look as if a minor event. Just my two cents ands speculation. Lastly not to mention the claims of US Sailors and Marines who will eventually claim health issues from exposure to radiation and the VA denying claims based on the denial of contamination…
