An unidentified country in Latin America….
Argentina or Brasil, perhaps?
Haiti???
Oh.
I took many folklore courses in college and one in particular, on Haiti and Vodun, was especially chilling. The text was one of a few books I’ve had to get out of my house. It was a primary source of left-hand practices that only men undertook and explained the rituals involved that were used against the French and American governments. I’ve blocked the name of the book from my mind, it was that frightening. If anyone could resurrect the dead…
Check “The Serpent and the Rainbow” by Wade Davis (1997) – could now be re-read with an eye to both transhumanism and the search for disquieting ancient techniques.
Don’t worry this is not a grimoire!
The course’s text book I read made The Serpent and the Rainbow (still have that one) look like a cartoon on the back of a cereal box. I felt spiritually vulnerable simply reading it, and I’ve read a fair amount of occult works. Even if I wanted to remember the ti-tle, I could not, in good conscious, recommend it to anyone.
Evil books do exist unfortunately…
Psychosomatic death and Tetrodotoxin.
It’s interesting that Voodoo is practised by men, when the practise was introduced to African’s by the sale of pagan woman from Ireland by Cromwell into the slave trade. Well.. Voodoo dolls at any rate.
Do NOT fear Voodoo, you are enabling it to have power.
Think more in terms of .. the power of faith. Unfortunately.. thanks to the Catholic Church.. we used to practise magic.. now we’re chained to the rythmn.. sorry chained to dogma and guilt..its all about faith…
Absolutely, Kahlypso, I dont give power to any occult source that I study. This, however, had nothing to do with the syncretization of West African theology and Catholicism. Voodoo, as observed from a Western perspective, appears to center it’s power in the rituals of feminine participants. And while this is observably evident, there is also a separate, masculine counterpart that is used for destructive purposes, and it is a raw and dangerous power and has nothing to do with dolls or a veneer of Christianity. This text was an account of the magic used exclusively by the men against the French during the slave rebellion of 1791. This was full on West African Vodun. These slaves wanted nothing to do with anything European. This rebellion was a magical act of pure, sustained, focused hatred against their enemy. And they won. Haiti became the first Independent Black Republic in the New World. Of course no one would trade with them and The U.S. refused to recognize Haiti, as we had our own slavery issues, for which we got cursed, too. It’s a fascinating history. So, no, I’m not personally afraid of Vodun and do not feed it’s power, but my personal experience is that there are instances when the mere reading and processing a magical text can open a portal to something very dark and consuming and lingering. This text was one such instance.
Interesting Harvey – Good job we’re friends already..(otherwise Id have had to friend request you :))
OK.. West African Vodun… Left Hand.. ouf.. this is going to take me far… will try and be more concis.. what Im looking at.. Need to look at Ge’ez, Benin.. Igodomigodo (Kings of the Sky…) I thought Vodun was widely practised by women.. If you’re looking at Left Hand paths, then you’re looking at hand cults.. thinking hand print cave paintings.. Gabriel was the left hand of God….. That’s the Yesod.. the vehicule.. the fondation of the earth.. .. Holy KraB…. Just looking at the Jewish Kabbalah.. its a reproduction of the Kings chamber.. No wonder its phonetically resonant..Oki – been on internet, someone has already seen this, but google keeps redirecting his forum address to yahoo beauty.. so .. dont know what he/she wrote..
Hatred works very well for spell casting.. think willpower and theta waves. Nothing more powerful than your mind.
Keep in mind that the I read text is over 200 years old and that the ‘left-hand’ term is self named, meaning the pract*tioners themselves used the term and that it doesnt refer to any later category popularized by Western Traditions, aka, OTO, and etc. Popular culture has the image of the Voodoo priestess, but at the time, women were forbidden to use the men’s tradition.
