Sadly this has been known for many years. I first heard about the problems with hormones and xeno-oestrogen from contraceptive pills, pesticides, fertilizers, etc. in about 2003/4. There were already studies then showing that the males of certain species in nature (fish, frogs, etc.) were increasingly not developing normal sex organs.
I heard about it in the context of human health and nutrition and it was suggested also that along with exposure to these chemicals in water and the environment, that petroleum jelly and other baby products based on petroleum by-products were a factor in lower sperm counts in men. Very worrying all round.
