Companies are going to automate away as much labour as they can regardless of minimum wage. The whole point of automation is to drive the labour cost close to zero as possible. Hire one developer, have him write code to automate a menial task for some fixed rate, the automation saves you money in perpetuity. Automation continues to, and will continue to eliminate jobs.
The higher the minimum wage, the greater the need and the faster the migration to automation. The Fight for $15 crowd is being counter-productive by forcing up wages. I say DON’T BUY MCDONALDS, let the machine rust and save some cows.

I am in Puerto Rico the machines are already here. Now I see some people living in the island celebrating this, that is going to drop labour cost to zero. But they don’t realize that this automation is going to end up biting them in the butt. They are killing the working class slowly.
