This article in Huffpost is interesting… http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alastair-crooke/isis-wahhabism-saudi-arabia_b_5717157.html
It is a kind of explanatory history of Wahhabism and the Saudi kingdom and how ISIS arises out of this context. It also talks about the role of western powers and their policy. It has a slightly defensive / apologetic stance towards Saudi and attempts to explain some of the cultural currents within the Saudi kingdom…. but it is wary and cautious of Wahhabism and ISIS. This indicates – at least to me – a kind moral ambivalence, which is troubling.
What is MOST interesting (perhaps more interesting than the articles content) is:
(1) It appears in the Huffington Post! I am not sure many of its readers will read the whole thing, but that it appears in this media outlet is significant to me.
(2) It is written by British, ex-MI6 agent Alastair Crooke. He is an extremely interesting man with an unusual history, see for example: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/09/spy-who-loved-hamas-and-hezbollah-and-iran/
