Here is a series of audios on culture and society. In Our Time are 28 min long programmes on cultural topics led by Melvyn Bragg on BBC Radio 4 and they have been broadcast since 1999. They cover a huge range of cultural topics, mostly from a literature perspective.

Obviously they present the British establishment’s view which you can choose to go along with or filter out as you choose.

I have found them fascinating: not least because most of these topics were not covered in my schooling and certainly not in my engineering degree. They’re released as podcasts, which can be subscribed to from iTunes etc. Here is the webpage listing them all:
