There is a contemporary Italian composer whose music I enjoy very much: Ottorino Respighi. His orchestral music is descriptive, bright, and joyful and has been described as having a Russian influence. He’s best known for his Roman trilogy, suites, and tone poems. I esp. like the pieces taken from ancient music, such as the Ancient Airs and Dances, it’s charming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BPloCq3ODE

    • Pleased to say we’re on the same wavelength regarding Respighi, Margaret. I learned he was a student of Rimski-Korsakov last year and was delighted to no end.
