  “illusory pattern perception” sounds like NLP to me.. The problem being.. that most conspiracy theorists.. are making connections with information that has usually been dissimulated from the general public.. so you can make your wild crazy claims that cant be backed up with proof.. because.. some people are very good at destroying evidence.. like bitbleaching servers for exemple.. so the nasty crime cant be proven.. doesnt mean it didnt happen.
