From Wikipedia: “Arnaud Jean-Georges Beltrame (18 April 1973 – 24 March 2018) was a Lieutenant Colonel in the French National Gendarmerie, who was killed in an Islamic terrorist attack at Trèbes, department of Aude, after he voluntarily exchanged himself for a hostage. French president Emmanuel Macron said that Beltrame deserved “the respect and admiration of the whole nation.” This was posted very quickly.

And this too was posted rather quickly on Wikipedia:
“Located on an important river crossing, Trèbes was originally known as Tresmals (Three Fords) but in 1110 residents petitioned for the name to be changed to Trèbes (Three Goods) since Tresmals could also be parsed as “Three Evils”. In March 2018, the Trèbes hostage crisis took place in a supermarket in the town.[1]”

More about the important river crossing…..
“The Canal du Midi (Occitan: Canal de las Doas Mars, meaning canal of the two seas) is a 240 km (150 mi) long canal in Southern France (French: le Midi). Originally named the Canal royal en Languedoc (Royal Canal in Languedoc) and renamed by French revolutionaries to Canal du Midi in 1789, the canal was at the time considered one of the greatest construction works of the 17th century.[1]

“The canal connects the Garonne River to the Étang de Thau on the Mediterranean and along with the 193 km (120 mi) long Canal de Garonne forms the Canal des Deux Mers, joining the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. The canal runs from the city of Toulouse down to the Étang de Thau near the Mediterranean.”

            Symbolism abounds…

And look at the obelisk we find at the highest point in this waterway…..
            https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Naurouze_Monument_Riquet.jpg
“The Seuil de Naurouze, or Col de Naurouze, is the highest point (190 m above sea level) of the Canal du Midi in southern France.”

And, serendipitously, there is a movie commemorating this canal – Le Songe de Naurouze….. https://actu.fr/occitanie/villefranche-de-lauragais_31582/le-songe-de-naurouze-le-cine-get-fait-le-plein-de-candidats-figurants-a-revel_5564247.html
Odd language they use here (admittedly it is a machine translation):
“The film crew is planning a hundred extras, but in view of the success of this public meeting, they may well be more. The scene where Riquet is hiding in the gallery of faucets will also require many extras according to the director.
              The extras will be volunteers

Extras who, moreover, will not be paid for their participation in the filming.
It’s a militant film, explained Jean Périssé. The meals will be provided by the production and we promise a little surprise to the extras … We are a small production … We will finance this film with 1.2 million euros … The film is cheap, we save on everything.
The beginning of the shooting is scheduled for October 2 for five weeks and if Jean Périssé admitted that the cinema was “something fragile”, he felt that his film was 95% chance of seeing the day:
It only takes a bit to make it turn around but we have the will and the energy, just like Pierre-Paul Riquet.
The good news for the candidates is that there would be no selection:
A priori, you are all caught, Jean Perisse launched to his audience. We will try to please everyone and make this shoot an exceptional moment in your life.
              No more no less.”

Sorry @danathomas for highjacking your post! This all tumbled out when I looked it up….

      • The alleged shooter is said to have been “radicalised” at the mosque in Carcassonne, which was of course the main city of the Cathars.

        • Italian media on the other hand are highlighting the story according to which the late Mr. Beltrame received the sacrament of matrimony in his last moments (he had been married at a civil wedding a few weeks previously). Looks like yet another case of the PTBs turning a crisis into an opportunity, simultaneously creating a Roman Catholic and Masonic “martyrdom”.
