I may be wrong but a far as I am aware Joseph has never mentioned the theories, advanced as if they were fact, contained in this article. I visited the Temple Church in London recently and noticed that they call it the “mother church of common law” on their website and in some publications; a bit of good British hype if you ask me. Perhaps they envisage some American attorney whose background in history is a bit shaky, looking at the hallowed arches and saying “So this is where it all began!”
This is not to say, of course, that there are no aspects worth looking into regarding how the former Temple complex eventually became a home to lawyers. 19th century England caught the “French mania” for neo-Templar Orders connected with Freemasonry; and this could have some relation with the “Venetian Party”, i.e. the identifation by the British mercantilist political class with the oligarchy governing the lagoon city, mistakenly called democratic, and its predatory maritime policies, in which the Knights Templar certainly played a part. Perhaps the question will be answered in the new book.
