More vote recounts and now lawsuits… sigh…
… more wasted time, money and energy … nothing but a turning away of mind from serious concerns …
From a speech by T. R. —
“I naturally take an interest in it because I started it . . . the Panama Canal wouldn’t have been started if I hadn’t taken hold of it. . . . I took a trip to the Isthmus, started the canal and then left Congress not to debate the canal, but to debate me and in portions of the public press the debate still goes on as to whether or not I acted properly in getting the canal but while the debate goes on the canal does too and they are welcome to debate me as long as they wish, provided that we can go on with the canal now.”
… maybe the time has come that we “go on with the canal now”. Given the discussion in the last Dialog on the idea of “tradition” I would like to suggest that the next VidChat on the 20th focus on questions concerning Tradition. … specifically on the metaphysics of Tradition. Given that the “tradition” (if in fact one can identify anything observable in our politics that is anything but the most minimal of efforts to provide the appearance of tradition) of our politics as currently practiced have had and continue to have nothing but detrimental experiential consequences for the people [both us and the other] (projection and exertion of military power in the world with no clearly stated goal or resulting evident good – and yes, I am excluding the “protecting our freedom” argument, trillions [probably more if truth were to be known] in wealth “missing” [whatever that means], crumbling infrastructure … one could of course go on.
Is Tradition essentially an individual or social matter? Do any of us either individually or socially currently have any Tradition(s)? If we, either as individuals or socially, do not have or carry any Tradition(s)? If not where does one go to find them? …. if found how does one go about their acquisition? …. I believe it not a stretch to say that on more than one occasion Dr. Farrell has intimated that our current cultural environment could be more accurately referred to as an anti-culture. I take this to mean that the “culture” we currently find ourselves in almost totally dedicated to being conducive to our being unable to either maintain Tradition or reestablish
contact with it.
It would seem then that one of the first orders of business, if not the actual first, would be to find a method for the maintenance or reestablishment of Tradition.
Are there available models for the establishment of beliefs via Tradition(s)? Aristotle’s? Kropotkin’s? Polish Solidarity? … Maybe we now know nothing but Nominalism. Beliefs are only just words … they no longer are Logos, they no longer have any power, they are just meaningless sounds without the necessity of action in the world.
It is time to take a trip to the Isthmus.
At least they didn’t scream its the Russians hacking them.
