Solar flares. Though the article failed to mention WHY we are presently more at risk – no NOT “global warming” but because of the grand solar minimum that has led to a contraction of the Earth’s magnetosphere – it does propose something. Certain tech firms, the y say, will be able to provide early warning so that you can “turn off your devices” to prevent them from being ruined. So what if POWER COMPANIES get on board and turn off grids pleading the arrival of a Big Flare? Remember how they turned off power to “prevent” the spread of Calif. fires. PS another bonanza for people selling “survival” items…

Does “turning off your device” work? My understanding that unless you have a faraday cage around your chips (your device), well grounded, it will still be affected and probably won’t work after one of these massive solar events. What IS the truth?
Faraday cage, exactly! An old microwave would do for small devices, for larger ones I think there are a lot of DIY designs out there…
