Those shifty Russkies have discovered a way to move our North Magnetic Pole over to their side. All compasses point to Magnetic North. All modern navigation is reliant on this measurement as opposed to the Geologic North which is the top of the Earths axis. That’s why it’s precise location has always been so important. It is constantly monitored by a team of British and American geophysicists operating under the World Magnetic Model ( https://ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/WMM/DoDWMM.shtml ) umbrella. Magnetic North has remained over polar Canada since measurements have been taken, however it’s gone from meandering in a kinda circular pattern over Ellesmere Island at 5mph to and astonishing 40-45mph straight towards Siberia over the last decade!

In military land navigation, there are 3 North’s: True North, Magnetic North, and Grid North. There is a basic formula used to adjust your compass to compensate from the magnetic north “shift”.
