Its what the planet would look like if it really were flat. The common map that everyone is familiar with is distorted BECAUSE it’s a spherical topography stretched out onto a flat plane (ie the map) If you take a globe and stretch it out over oa flat surface you are going to have rips and tears.. that look something like this..https://sites.google.com/site/davidandjillwright/sinusoidal150m-for-web-full.jpg with lots of white space on it. The map that we’re ‘used’ to seeing pulls the countries out to fill up that missing space and we end up with greenland the size of Africa..
Interesting in that it shows as a “grid” which is why the geography is so elongated longitudinally. Hmmm. Doesn’t seem to fit flat OR global earth…
