Banding lambs is NOT as horrible as he makes it seem. You only have to slip up cutting off tails just one time to have blood spurting out of a lamb that you carefully helped birth to get used to a few hours of uncomfortable surprise on the part of the banded lamb. It is never for a full day! (I have been doing it for nearly 20 years now).
Meanwhile, I run a ranch. This is pretty much a 24-7 kind of job especially in spring as lambs, horses and calves are being born. Seeing a dead anything that suffered because you weren’t there to help is simply agonizing let alone financially draining. Finding someone to help is nearly impossible because a) few people really have practical experience any more, b) few people are willing to learn to do something dirty and exhausting, let alone doing it well, and c) everyone thinks they deserve $20/hour to learn something basic. These are the things that I worry about as I ponder the future of our country. He makes very good points but, in my opinion, the farmer/rancher is at the very basic level and that is where we are all going to suffer the most.
When the Nazis came into power.. they empowered the farmers and gave them pride of place as they actually produce the food you eat.. kind of important.. they also broke the laws and returned the ownershiop of land to the people living on it, rather than central banks..
Hate to say it.. but they had at least that right.. Farms should not have debts, certainly not debts with INTEREST:! They produce the food we put in our mouths.. why isnt anyone getting angry about this?? Even the Sumerians had laws in place to protect arable land – you actually used to have to spend time helping your neighbor, and you’d be re-paid (either in beer or hours – yep. paid in beer.. Ive seen the contrats :)) When will we get back to what’s right and stop paying the banks their interest ???
