The exercises starting next week will involve engagements against a fictitious country known as Pineland (a not so subtle reference to the South?), officials said. Staging areas will be largely on private land in 10 of the 21 counties, but the others may feel some impact, officials said.

Just what are they really preparing for?

    • Ah, Ft. Bragg, I was once a resident of “Pineland,” lol. For the layman, this is a fictitious (and massive) training ground for soldiers in the SFQC (Special Forces Qualification Cours), or simply “The Q” (no, not that “Q” lol). Most of the locals help out on these exercises, where the soldiers encounter the local “indigenous population”. This is to teach our soldiers how to move into an AO and “win the hearts and minds” of a foreign population in order to achieve a desired objective. Over the years I’ve seen news agencies pick up stories like this and ruffle a bunch of peoples feathers, as if it’s part of some grand scheme to take over the US. It is not and neither was Jade Helm. Every single soldier who advances through “The Q” gets to visit Pineland. We see these sort of stories pop up whenever our armed forces conduct drills in major cities as well. These are also nothing to be worried about. This allows our troops to conduct training missions in complex urban environments that they are not familiar with, both on the ground and in the air.
