    Hello 🙂

Does anyone know or recommend the best edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica ?

    • 1907 or older on Jordan Maxell’s advice.
You can find the on Archive…I grabbed them until I find a good garage/estate sale for hard copy.

      • good to know! I was thinking the edition 1911 but needed someone else’s input. I shall investigate 🙂

    • In one sense it depends on your purpose for having the Britannica. It has been argued by many, and I tend to agree, that the 11th /12th Edition (3 new volumes were produced in 1922 = 12th Edition) is one, if not the most interesting. It is interesting in that it gives you a grand picture of a world view that preceded but did not survive WW I. An interesting look at the Britannica, and a fun read as well, is by AJ Jacobs – The Know-It-All: One Man’s Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World.

      • My main reason is to add it to my book library and to be handed down to my son. I’m impressed by the English world preceding WWI and you’ve hit the nail on the head about it providing an overview of how things were thought about then. I’ll investigate Mr A J Jacobs also.

        • Nice! This edition would be a nice addition to your library. It is currently the most collectible Britannica. I’d be willing to bet that it will continue to be sought after in the future as well.
