The report I read said it took a while to determine who he was as he was unrecognizable… but died of suicide. Right.

Yes, it’s on the news outlets: Schaefer was (is?) the man in charge of the Hesse Land finances. The capital of Hesse is Frankfurt, location of the Bundesbank and the European Central Bank. I don’t think anybody in Germany, to start with, is buying this as an unfortunate coincidence.
