I am fresh after 1st part of the Quarterly wrap up. There was a subject of Defender2020 that was supposed to be largest military exercise since the end of the cold war. 20k of American soldiers transported to Germany first and later moved throughout Eastern flank of NATO. Corona virus supposedly stopped that in the beginning of the March 2020 or did it? According to official note below 3K of troops and 9K pieces od heavy equipment made to the bases in Germany. Here is my HOS -what if that was a plan from the beginning. Bring more US Army to the shores of Germany and keep them there. In the line of recent multiple accident of insubordination on the part of Germany , Washington wants to be sure that this is not year 1933 once again?

    • Troops on the ground are more for demonstrative than real strategic value. Germans may not be Russians, but they still know how to play a good chess game. Then there is this recent business of “NATO” fighting against… yes! the “virus”! One has the impression that the military bureaucracies are going through the motions, playing out scenarios worked out previously by their “experts”, in a spirit of elephantine inertia, compounded by in-fighting in the top ranks. Rest assured, however, that CASH will flow, whatever happens.

      • Agreed, I wonder how much more of that “missing money” this operation has yielded. Should we form a new pile or just add to the old one of 21T?

Ive been on several joint exercises. Granted I was a knuckle dragger, there isn’t any considerable amount of live munitions that come along for the ride. Granted, live fire exercises are conducted, it’s not anything worthy of some sort of Trojan Horse maneuver. Russia, likely has its eyes and ears within the NATO ranks and could see something like this coming. One of the major benefits of these exercises falls into the EW category (Electronic Warefare), where NATO forces will fly danger close to Russian boarders or “accidentally” cross the lines for a short duration in an effort to record and analyze Russia’s response and countermeasures. The birds that are used in these actions are loaded to the gills with electronic sensors to take full advantage of the risky endeavor. On the flip side, Russia knows this game and will often hold punches to not give away capability and SOP’s in a game of cat and mouse.

With that said, these exercises allow for certain cargo to be offloaded or on loaded under the guise of the exercise which could be where you see a certain level of shell games being carried out.

      • Thank you Ronin for such a generous response. Yes, that’s what has drown my attention too while reading the official memo, the amount of cargo, basically triple of the human count.
