It appears is was NOT an RT article and the writer seem to be a reputable writer with several books to his name and the article is not badly written IMHO. So, not clickbait nor a nice try. I think your reaction was bit hasty. Social distancing is a very poor idea with very little merit.
The RT article is badly written.
It does indeed use the the AIER article, but that itself is based on the NYT article which contains the material about the *14 year old girl* and her data model / project.
It’s not even a straight reprint of Jeffrey A. Tucker’s original and takes several liberties with it.
I’m not arguing for social distancing. I’m just interested in science and was intrigued how a 14 year old came to “Invent social distancing”
Having read both the AIED article (and the NYT one it’s based on) it’s clear that RT are misrepresenting the facts. She didn’t.

Tucker’s later article with link to CDC’s official policy…the numbers game is the driver for implementation, helps expose the importance of fudging the numbers.
