29th August there’s going to be a big protest in London and Berlin. It’s going to be centred on medical professionals and there’s also going to be US doctors talking via online methods. In UK the intention is to March to Downing Street. What’s the betting they’ll try to roll out the second wave and lockdown to time with the event?

    • That will take some fast footwork (or some anomalous event?), “their” power is proportional to the level of fear and despondency among the people. And since that involves emotions, which are by definition ever-changing, there are just too many variables, never mind those “infallible” computer models. “They” just can’t rely even on the former pots-and-pans-beating folk, and “they” know it….

      • Yes they can’t control the dialectic. As soon as they say something like face masks being mandatory in shops the police issue a statement saying they won’t police it and calling the policy stupid and unpoliceable. The more they push an extreme the more opposite push back they get.

      • For those unfamiliar with the UK, in the early “lockdown” phases, there was a strange ritual in some suburban areas where people would go outside on Thursday at 6pm and beat pots and pans “for solidarity with the heroes of the National Health Service”. Actually this gesture, encouraged by officialdom (who forgot to say that this typical of prisons! ) – was a thinly-disguised way of letting people vent their frustration while channelling the energy away from protest and towards support for the impositions.

        • Thing about that is they manipulated the old war time spirit. Now people know that they have been manipulated in such a callous way, all it does is serve to make people hopping mad and retaliate more.

        • In my opinion, this pan banging is indeed a “ritual” and it is cult behavior. Makes me think of how Mao’s image had to be adored and revered publicly. The kneeling and bowing down thing is also in the category – a kind of “courtly behavior” indicating submission to an aristocratic elite. Sure, in some ways Asian society never lost the ritual bow (thinking mostly of Japan) but this is distinctly anti-democratic and frankly anti-American.

    • Belgium will protest in Brussels on 16 august. The law has greenlit this protest and now laugh hard for 200 people no more!!!!

So Belgians being Belgians they figured out a way to circumvent the restriction of 200.

On the other hand this is drone country so I am curious how many will show up.

      • Come on Brussels!!

      • So if I read correctly, since no more than 2oo are allowed, they will converge in single file, self-grouping in alphabetical order by name, and walk in and out continuously all afternoon in “loop” formation?
