Does anyone have any Russian History book recommendations? I’m trying to learn more about pre-Bolshevik history, and what led to its political rise. Also, any other books on “the rape of Russia” history. So many books to choose from…

    • I certainly don’t know except to say those are the right questions to ask. Kudos, ML Light!

    • Vidchat question?

    • I’m with justawhoaman on this. I suggest asking Dr Farrell in a vidchat question — I’m sure there’s more than a few of us interested in his reading list on this subject.

    • I cannot help you with a recommendation, but I recently read an article in a magazine we subscribe to, “The Barnes Review” v. XXVI, #4, p. 4 titled “Bloody Sunday, Setting the Record Straight” by Dr. Matthew Raphael Johnson regarding the so-called peaceful march of workers to see the czar in St. Petersburg on January 9, 1905. Japan made a large investment to organize armed rebel groups. American millionaires also backed the rebels. The rebel groups fomented strikes and unrest at factories. After months a march to the czar was planned and occurred on Jan. 9. During the march there were several skirmishes. When the crowd was about to be halted, shots were fired from agitators to incite the workers. I was struck by the similarities to events in the US since May 2020.

    • Yep got lots of suggestions…without knowing specifically what you mean by pre-Bolshevik (that’s a long span of history), I’ll list a few from my library.
      1) The Origins of Russia by George Vernadsky
      2) The Icon and the Axe by James H. Billington
      3) New Myth, New World by Bernice Glatzer Rosenthal
      4) Religious and Anti-Religious Thought in Russia by George L. Kline

      • Thank you so much, Winston. I knew the resident Giza Librarian would come through, per usual.

        • Also, I just told myself “no more buying books this month“ (last month was out of control). But now, with this new treasure trove of knowledge at my fingertips, I’m thinking I better stifle that reasonably unreasonable rational and hop to it before my budget-based Mind gets the best of me. More books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
